Fitzroy Island is no frills budget island holiday accommodation. The perfect getaway location for relaxation and all the scenery you can handle. Fitzroy Island is a Great Barrier Reef island resort and is one of the most unspoilt islands adjacent to the Reef. Fitzroy Island has changed little since being named by Lt James Cook during his voyage of discovery back in 1770. The island is 339 hectares in size, and covered in lush rainforest that descends dramatically into crystal clear water, where tropical fish present a rainbow of colour through the coral surrounding the island. Birdlife also abounds on the island, presenting a natural showcase not to be missed. The island is only 45 minutes from Cairns by fast catamaran, (28 kilometres) and 45 minutes cruising time to the Outer Great Barrier Reef.  accommodation;) Beach Bunkhouses: In 3 blocks of 32 rooms, they are located just 30 metres from the beach set under a canopy of shady palm trees and cooled by sea breezes and ceiling fans. The Bunkhouses consist of dormitory/hostel type rooms that sleep four people. There are four beach bunk houses that have a double bed. Each room also has lockable storage space and access to a communal freshwater bathroom/shower.Beach Cabins: have garden views through to Welcome Bay, and have two rooms, the main with one Queen bed and the other room with a bunk bed. Each of the 8 separate cabins have private ensuites, and are cooled by tropical sea breezes and ceiling fans. The cabins also have television, tea and coffee making facilities and shaded verandahs which make the cabins an ideal family option. dining;) Flare Grill: opening hours 8.00am - 10.00am and 12.00 noon - 2.00pm. Sample breakfast menu; continental breakfast, bacon and eggs, eggs benedict. Sample lunch menu; tropical bbq buffet lunch, gourmet burgers.Kiosk: opening hours 9.00am - 5.00pm.
